Molecular Magnetism
With dimensions close to 1 nanometer and the ability to store one bit of information, molecules that possess bi-stable magnetic states represent the ultimate realization of a digital memory. Our experiments aim at unravelling how such tiny metal-organic complexes interact with macroscopic magnetic substrates, providing clues on how to stabilize their magnetic core and couple it to the outside world. Our observations elucidate opportunities and challenges to incorporate single molecule magnetic elements into hybrid molecular/metal circuits.
